Heroin Use By College Age Adults On The Rise

(Athens Banner-Herald, Dec. 6) Heroin use among teens and college students has risen dramatically over the past five years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As the overall number of users doubled from 2007 to 2013, the greatest increase was among women and non-Hispanic whites. Those populations take their dependence with them to college or begin in college. Heroin addiction rose in the wealthy suburbs of New England about a decade ago, and the trend is moving quickly nationwide. It's a trend that campus health officials are paying attention to, starting with prescription drug addiction from injuries to dependence on heroin. READ MORE.
