(Examiner, May 27) A new study shows that every day, at least 1.2 million college students are drinking and smoking marijuana. Harder drugs, such as cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin, are less used, but still by thousands every day. The study, released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, found that on a single day, 1,326 students used an illicit drug and 1,299 smoked marijuana for the first time. The study cites that college culture, with unstructured and unrestricted time, peer pressure, and lack of supervision lead to substance abuse on campuses.
